Danche Washed – Gedeb, Ethiopia, Produced at Goro Bedesa Site

As part of this season’s fresh arrivals from Ethiopia, we’re proud to showcase a beautifully processed washed lot from the renowned Danche area of Gedeb, in the Gedeo Zone of Southern Ethiopia.

From our partners on the ground:

Danche Washed is produced by outgrower farmers surrounding the Danche sub-district and processed at the Goro Bedesa site in Gedeb. Farmers deliver ripe red cherries, which are sorted by lot (based on kebele), and meticulously processed using an Agard pulping machine. The station receives around 1,000 tons of cherry annually, yielding approximately 175 tons of parchment coffee.”

At elevations typical of the Gedeo highlands, cherries are pulped, with floaters efficiently removed before fermentation. Parchment is fermented in spotless tanks for 48–72 hours, depending on weather, then thoroughly washed to remove mucilage. Drying begins with 48 hours of shaded skin drying and continues on raised African beds for 8–12 days. Coffee is turned five times a day and covered during peak sun (11 AM–3 PM) to preserve quality. Once moisture content reaches 10–11%, parchment is stored in a well-ventilated facility before transport to Addis Ababa.

In the cup:
This coffee is sweet, with bright, dessert-like notes reminiscent of lemon bars and sweet cherries. Its clean and complex taste stay true to the classic washed Ethiopian profile—lively, elegant, and effortlessly drinkable.
