Description
The Producer
The Kamviu Washing Station operates as part of the Gakundu Farmers' Cooperative Society (FCS) in Embu County, Kenya, bringing together the harvest of roughly 850 local smallholder farmers from neighboring villages like Manyatta. Since 1958, the local family-run Kamavindi Coffee Lab has partnered with the cooperative, operating a dedicated training center and cupping lab to elevate post-harvest practices, empower farming communities, and showcase the best of Kenya’s high-altitude growing potential.
The Process
Upon arrival at the Kamviu Factory, ripe cherries are hand-sorted and de-pulped. The coffee then undergoes an open-tank fermentation to break down the mucilage before being thoroughly washed with clean mountain water. Finally, the parchment is transferred to raised drying beds for 14 to 21 days, where it is meticulously turned and hand-sorted throughout the cycle to ensure uniform drying and clean clarity in the cup.
The Coffee
The exceptional processing and terroir yields a dynamic and vibrant cup profile. Upfront, it hits with a burst of fresh acidity that reminds us of citrus and stone fruits. As it cools, The body softens reminding us of dairy coating the mouth with a soft and sweet finish.
